The Organ Library is a repository of music written or transcribed for the pipe organ, as well as books pertaining to the history of organ music and organ performance. It includes the archives and papers of notable concert organists.

Research

Margaret Power Biggs Research Grant

The BiggsIn memory of Mrs. Biggs, a generous patron of the Organ Library, a research grant has been established to provide funding for performers and scholars desiring to make use of the Library’s holdings for special projects.  Such a project may be a book, article. thesis, dissertation, or the preparation of a recording or special performance.  Recent recipients have been Andrew Kotylo for research on M. Searle Wright) and Kevin Birch (for research on the influence of nineteenth-century German musical style on American organ composers).  For further details and application requirements, contact the Chairman of the Organ Library Committee, Joseph Dyer.

Max B. Miller Book Award

Named in honor of Max. B. Miller, former Boston University organist and one of the founders of the Organ Library, this award and monetary prize recognizes outstanding books relating to organ repertoire (a specific composer, school of composition) or to a prominent performer.  The most recent award went to Christopher S. Anderson for his book Max Reger and Karl Straube: Perspectives on Organ Performing Traditions.  Authors may send copies of their books to the Organ Library, but all books published in English during the two-year period covered by the award will be considered.
